Thanks for serving your fellow members by enrolling as a Mentor!
Here are the steps to successfully complete your Mentor enrollment:
- Make selections for each of the demographics below to set your preferences. Please complete as many fields as possible during Mentor enrollment. The more information you provide, the easier it will be for Mentees to find their best Mentor match.
- In addition to enrolling as a Mentor, please complete your member profile (which is populated with some of your membership information) so that potential Mentees can learn more about you. Be sure to add a photo, include information in your bio and details of your job history.
Mentor Qualifications:
- An IP Professional with 3+ years of experience.
- In 1 or more leadership roles, such as community coalitions, policy/advocacy, etc.
- Have you developed and/or completed a program that was evidence-based or evidence-informed?
- If so, then being a Mentor is for you!
Mentor Responsibilities:
- Meet with your mentee and/or engage in mentoring activities at the agreed upon times
- Willingly share your experience and professional success related to the subject matter where you are providing mentorship
- Explain how the ATS organization is structured; May include your specific organization as well
- Support the ATS mission, vision, and goals
- Orient mentee to the Core Competencies for Injury and Violence Prevention Professionals, Standards and Indicators for Model Level I and II Trauma Center Injury and Violence Prevention Programs and related resources
- Look for experiences that will stretch the mentee (i.e., recommending shadowing during meetings, suggested readings, committees to join, etc.)
- Stay accessible, committed, and engaged during the length of the program
- Listen well
- Provide open and candid feedback
- Offer encouragement through genuine positive reinforcement
- Be a positive role model
- Share “lessons learned” from your own experiences
- Be a resource and a sounding board
- Keep your conversations confidential
- Let the ATS Executive Director know as soon as possible if you are having a problem connecting with your mentee
