Outcomes of a Mentoring Program
The purpose of mentoring is to tap into the existing knowledge, skills, and experience of seasoned IP Professionals and transfer their knowledge and skills to less experienced IP Professionals. Defined goals of the mentoring program are listed below. Once a mentee/mentor relationship is solidified, defined goals with key performance indicators will be created. These measurable indicators will reflect the individual goals of the mentee/mentor.
Mentoring Program Goals:
- Identify an experienced IP mentor who can provide guidance with professional development.
- Guide professional development with the Core Competencies for Injury and Violence Prevention Professionals.
- Inform program development through application of the Standards and Indicators for Model Level I and II Trauma Center Injury and Violence Prevention Programs.
- Build and support effective relationships based on mutual trust, respect and accountability.
- Equip IP professionals to make informed decisions on how to provide appropriate, efficient and effective programs.
- Develop relationships among organizations with similar interests to address ATS’s and mentee’s organization’s need for a high performing IP professional.
- Provide institutional knowledge and accountability for the program’s success factors based on personal experience, and transfer that knowledge to ensure desired outcomes and quality of program activities.
- Ensure program/intervention is based on valid, quantifiable data (i.e. morbidity/mortality, evaluation findings, evidence based programming and/or federal guidelines), and are aligned with the mission and objectives of the mentee’s organization and ATS
- Realize the importance of collaboration and learning from others who can provide guidance on how newer IP professionals can move along the Standards and Indicator’s continuum towards a mature program.
